Housing Officer / Housing Manager
Overview

We are seeking a proactive and organised 
Housing Officer / Housing Manager
 to oversee the day-to-day management of our residential property portfolio. The ideal candidate will ensure properties are well maintained, tenants are supported, and compliance is upheld across all housing operations. This role involves a combination of property inspections, tenant management, and administrative coordination — requiring excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a practical approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

Property Management & Inspections

  • Conduct regular property inspections to ensure compliance with safety, maintenance, and cleanliness standards.
  • Identify and report any maintenance issues or tenancy breaches, arranging repairs as necessary.
  • Liaise with contractors, maintenance teams, and suppliers to ensure timely and quality work completion.

Tenant Relations

  • Act as the first point of contact for tenant queries, complaints, and support requests.
  • Manage all aspects of tenancy administration, including onboarding, renewals, and terminations.
  • Ensure tenants understand their rights and responsibilities under tenancy agreements.
  • Support tenants with welfare or housing-related concerns, escalating issues when appropriate.

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Log and manage all maintenance requests through to completion, ensuring cost-effective and efficient outcomes.
  • Prioritise urgent repairs and follow up to ensure tenant satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and contractor performance.

Administration & Documentation

  • Handle correspondence including utility bills, council tax, compliance certificates, and other property-related documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for each property and tenant in the management system.
  • Prepare reports on property condition, tenancy performance, and compliance as required.

Compliance & Health and Safety

  • Ensure all properties meet relevant health, safety, and housing standards.
  • Coordinate gas safety checks, electrical inspections, and fire risk assessments.
  • Maintain awareness of housing regulations and ensure all activity remains compliant.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in housing management, property management, or a related field.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy management, and property maintenance procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and property management software (training provided if needed).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own car (essential)
     — regular travel between properties is required.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience working with local authorities or housing associations.
  • Understanding of compliance and legal frameworks related to residential lettings.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
