Looking for a varied role?
New Forest District Council is investing in next-generation technology and a modern, purpose-built control room to deliver essential services around the clock. From managing the Council's CCTV network of over 120 cameras – covering public spaces and key assets – to supporting our Community Alarm (lifeline) service for more than 2,000 clients, this is a role where no two days are the same. You'll also play a key part in handling enquiries for the Council's out-of-hours service, ensuring urgent issues are handled promptly and effectively. At the heart of a 24-hour operation, you'll handle a wide range of public enquiries and help keep our communities safe and connected.
Are you passionate about helping others and able to work under pressure?
The control room operates on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week. You will be required to survey multiple camera monitors, liaise with police and other services, and keep accurate records in compliance with a strict code of practice. You must be able to concentrate, especially during periods of intense activity, and have excellent observation skills. You will also be answering emergency careline calls, making decisions within guidelines, and taking the relevant action to deal with the call appropriately.
Delivering excellent customer service is a key part of this role. You'll provide reassurance and clear communication to vulnerable clients and members of the public, ensuring every interaction is handled professionally and with empathy. Alongside this, you'll carry out essential administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate logs, updating systems, and ensuring records are kept in line with compliance requirements.
You should demonstrate the ability to work positively in a team setting, have very good verbal and written communication skills, be well presented, and have a professional and personable nature. The ability to work calmly and effectively when dealing with emergency situations, viewing sensitive and emotionally distressing images, or supporting vulnerable and concerned adults over the phone forms a significant part of the role. A high level of IT skills is necessary as the work involves using the CCTV and Community Alarms software and equipment, as well as Microsoft Office.
This is a part time role offering 19.25 hours per week working within a rotating shift schedule to support 24/7 operations.
Alongside your core hours, there will be the opportunity to work additional hours covering annual leave and occasionally, sickness.
You must have a full driver's license and use of a car for carrying out home visits for which additional travel payments will be made.
Due to the highly sensitive and confidential nature of the work, you will undergo enhanced level Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. Ability, aptitude and/or personality tests may be carried out as part of the selection process.
