Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and the ability to supervise and manage various aspects of our business operations. This role is crucial in ensuring that our organisation runs smoothly and efficiently while achieving its strategic goals. The Business Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily activities, driving performance, and fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage staff, ensuring that all team members are motivated and working towards common objectives.
  • Develop and implement business strategies to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on key metrics.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels within the team and across departments.
  • Identify areas for improvement within the organisation and propose actionable solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through training and development initiatives for staff.
  • Prepare regular reports for senior management detailing operational performance and strategic recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Finance

  • Lead the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and three-year financial forecasts.
  • Oversee payroll, banking, procurement processes, investments, and submission of statutory financial returns.
  • Ensure financial operations comply with regulations and demonstrate value for money in the use of public funds.
  • Manage income streams including school lettings, grants, fundraising, and other revenue-generating initiatives.

Human Resources

  • Manage all aspects of recruitment, staff contracts, payroll, and DBS checks.
  • Maintain and regularly audit the Single Central Record to ensure compliance with safeguarding and HR policies.
  • Provide line management to designated admin, support, and site teams, including performance appraisals and professional development.
  • Lead workforce planning in alignment with the school's improvement priorities.
  • Support the consistent application of HR policies across the school, including absence management.

Administration & ICT

  • Oversee the school's administrative systems, records management, and MIS platforms such as Bromcom.
  • Act as system administrator for key financial and administrative software packages.
  • Manage IT infrastructure, ensuring effective technical support, hardware maintenance, and staff ICT training.
  • Coordinate accurate data collection and reporting for DfE requirements, including the school census.

Facilities & Premises Management

  • Ensure the school premises are safe, secure, and well-maintained, overseeing contracts such as cleaning and catering.
  • Monitor site utilities and services while ensuring health & safety compliance, including regular risk assessments and fire drills.
  • Act as the school's designated Health & Safety Coordinator and Fire Officer.
  • Provide expert advice to leadership on insurance policies and oversee the management of related schemes.

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Contribute to the school's strategic planning processes and participate in leadership and governor meetings.
  • Provide informed financial and operational advice to the Senior Leadership Team and governing body.
  • Lead on innovation projects including digital transformation, staff wellbeing initiatives, and parental engagement.
  • Oversee the school's marketing, communications, and public relations, including events, promotional materials, and website content.
  • Represent the school in interactions with the local authority, suppliers, media, and community stakeholders.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £20.00-£30.00 per hour
