As Channel continues to expand and grow its assets, the role of Head of Portfolio Management is more important than ever. You will be responsible for leading the Portfolio Management function, ensuring the efficient and disciplined management of Channel's assets. This role sits at the heart of Channel's ambition to become the most efficient asset manager in the market, measured by assets under management (AUM) per head and by combining operational excellence, automation, and data-driven decision-making using technology solutions where appropriate.

Status: Permanent

Working hours: Monday – Friday

40 hours per week; 8:30am– 5:30pm

Location: Office based; 77 Charlotte Street, London W1T 4PW with some flexibility to work remotely.

International travel may also be required

Reporting to: Chief Operating and Technical Officer

Responsible for: Portfolio team

Salary: Circa £85K per annum + attractive benefits package + long term incentive scheme subject to experience

The opportunity:

The Head of Portfolio Management will oversee daily portfolio operations, investor and client reporting, and risk monitoring, while driving continuous improvement across people, process, and technology. The role demands a hands-on, solutions-oriented leader who thrives in a high-growth, fast-scaling environment and can bridge operational execution with strategic oversight.

The position provides direct and detailed exposure to a wide range of working capital transaction structures and operational management within an FCA-regulated environment, working closely with clients, funders, and Channel's structuring, risk, and technology teams.

You will be expected to get stuck in from day one:

Responsibilities of the Head of Portfolio Management are as follows:

  • Leadership & Performance Management
  • Lead and develop the portfolio management team, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and ensure alignment with organisational goals around efficiency and AUM per head.
  • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams, ensuring a consistent standard of excellence in portfolio execution.
  • Portfolio Oversight
  • Manage the daily transaction activities across all facilities managed in London.
  • Proactively monitor the performance of trade receivables and trade finance portfolios, including oversight of:
    • Verification of transaction performance metrics
    • Near-term horizon analysis and prevention of portfolio deterioration;
    • Verification of asset eligibility criteria;
    • Maintenance of cash and non-cash reserve requirements;
    • Asset purchasing/funding processes;
    • Calculation and reconciliation of asset and cash positions.
  • Operational Governance & Documentation
  • Ensure all operational policies, procedures, and process documentation are current, complete, and aligned with Channel's ISO 27001 and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive standardisation and documentation of best practices across all portfolios to support scalability and audit readiness.
  • Transaction Execution & Onboarding
  • Support structuring and execution teams in the operational closing of new transactions.
  • Oversee the collection and verification of AML/KYC documentation, ensuring smooth and compliant onboarding for clients and investors.
  • Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
  • Manage monthly and ad hoc reporting of portfolio performance to investors, funders (including NAV reporting), and to other external stakeholders.
  • Address operational queries promptly, ensuring transparent and professional communication.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with internal teams — including Risk, Finance, Structuring, and Technology — to improve data quality, automation, and process efficiency.
  • Support the development and enhancement of Channel's technology platforms (e.g. Magic and Copperfield) to enable operational scalability and control.
  • Continuous Improvement & Risk Management
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and workflow optimisation.
  • Monitor operational risks within the portfolio management function, ensuring timely escalation and remediation.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Proven leadership experience in managing high-performing operational or portfolio management teams within financial institutions involved in working capital or structured finance.
  • Strong operational and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex transaction data and drive decisions that protect and enhance portfolio performance.
  • Track record of process optimisation and automation, ideally leveraging technology to improve accuracy, speed, and scalability.
  • Deep understanding of trade receivables, trade finance, and asset-backed facilities, including portfolio monitoring, eligibility testing, and cash management.
  • Experience of managing securitization and fund structures in a regulated environment
  • Experience maintaining and enhancing operational policies, procedures, and documentation to support ISO 27001 and FCA regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring precision in reporting, reconciliations, and investor communications.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to interact with senior management, investors, funders, and clients.
  • Proactive and solution-focused, able to identify issues early and implement effective, sustainable improvements.
  • Adaptable and resilient, capable of performing in a fast-paced, high-growth environment as Channel continues to scale.
