About us

It all started in 2020, with our founder (Barney) baking cinnamon buns in his mum's kitchen during lockdown. Fast forward a few years, and Buns From Home is now a fast-growing family of bakeries dotted across London, loved for our iconic buns and exciting weekend specials. We're a cheerful, close-knit team passionate about constantly creating really, really delicious bakes that leave our customers happy and full.

Role Overview

The Financial Controller will be responsible for leading the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and efficient processes across the business. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, scaling environment and can bring structure, insight, and strategic thinking to the finance function.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all day-to-day finance operations including AP, payroll, and banking.
  • Produce accurate monthly management accounts in a timely manner
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting
  • Cashflow management processes.
  • Create simple, useful dashboards and KPIs.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements.

Controls & Compliance

  • Strengthen internal controls, financial processes, and best practices across Head Office and store operations.
  • Manage any external audits
  • Oversee inventory accounting and cost controls for production and retail.

Collaboration with Departments

  • Work closely with the operations, marketing, product, and people teams to drive financial performance.
  • Provide analytical insight to support decision-making, store profitability, and expansion planning.
  • Develop clear financial dashboards and KPIs for leadership and store managers.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Improve and streamline financial systems and procedures
  • Lead the implementation or optimisation of accounting/ERP tools.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data flow across departments.

Team

  • Manage and develop a small finance team
  • Build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • 5+ years PQE in a Financial Controller or senior finance role.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality, FMCG, or a multi-site environment strongly preferred.
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and commercial mindset.
  • Proven ability to build systems, processes, and controls in a scaling business.
  • Confident communicator able to partner effectively with both senior leadership and operational teams.
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategic and operational responsibilities.
