Job Title: Transport Coordinator

Location: Johnson's Aggregates & Recycling, Ilkeston DE7 4BG

Hours: Full time – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (with overtime as required)

Hourly rate: £13.22p/hour

Reporting To: Transport Manager

The Role

To ensure smooth, accurate and efficient coordination of all transport administrative activities and to provide reliable weighbridge cover. This includes managing paperwork, scheduling, liaising with drivers and customers, ensuring legal and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

· Coordinate the day-to-day scheduling of deliveries, collections, and driver assignments.

· Maintain transport documentation: delivery notes, permits, etc.

· Monitor vehicle availability, utilisation and downtime; liaise with maintenance/garage for servicing and repairs.

· Record and report transport costs (fuel, vehicle maintenance) and help with cost control

· Handle enquiries from customers, drivers, subcontractors and internal teams regarding transport/logistics

· Ensure driver records are up to date (licenses, training, compliance such as hours of service, tachograph etc.)

· Keep stock of consumables (PPE for drivers, etc.) relevant to transport operations

· Use transport software to monitor and update schedules, deliveries and transport operations

· Assist with planning transport resources in response to workload changes.

· Operate the weighbridge: weigh in / weigh out vehicles, ensure accurate recording of weights

· Check incoming and outgoing load documentation matches weights and product types

· Control traffic flow at the weighbridge: directing vehicles safely, ensuring required paperwork is carried, verifying compliance

· Issue weighbridge tickets, reconcile them with dispatch/receiving records

· Report any discrepancies, errors, or anomalies (overloads, product misclassification, contamination etc.)

· Any other reasonable tasks as requested by management.

Skills & Experience Required

· Previous experience in transport / haulage administration, ideally in aggregates, recycling, quarry, waste or related heavy industry.

· Strong organisational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, especially during busy periods.

· Good numerical ability; accuracy and attention to detail (especially for weights, documentation, calculations)

· Good IT skills: competent with MS Office (Excel, Word), experience with transport/ /weighbridge software would be a bonus.

· Good communication skills, able to liaise with drivers, yard operatives, customers and internal teams.

· Problem solving ability; proactive attitude; reliable and flexible, able to cover overtime and flexible hours when needed.
