Salary Scale: £12.21ph to £14.60ph, progression through these salary scales is dependent upon experience, NVQ/ QCF and continued development.

Sleep ins are paid at £45.00 per sleep in

JOB PURPOSE

To support the emotional, social, education and physical needs of the young people we care for. Ensuring that they are given every opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve positive outcomes, while seeing to it that the care provide meets the regulations of the Children's homes Regulations and care standards of 2015 while adhering to OFSTED requirements.

NATURE OF POST

The post holder will be based at one of our residential homes within the East Midlands. Employees should note, however, that although they shall be allocated to a specific home, they are employed by Cherished Beginnings and may be required at some point to work at other appropriate Cherished Beginnings provisions. The young people in the care of Cherished Beginnings present a variety of difficulties for which they will need varying levels of support. In order to provide the required care the staff team are required to work shifts allocated by the Manager or delegated deputy, including weekends, evenings, sleep in's and the young people's annual holidays. During this time a number of administrative hours will be spent attending meetings, supervision, annual appraisals, training, and young people's reviews (this list is not exhaustive). In undertaking activities with the children/young people and on behalf of the home the post holder can expect to use the organisations vehicle/s.

Due to the nature of the care provided by the organisation, staff are expected to work in a flexible way and at times carry out tasks not specifically outlined in the job descriptions to meet the needs of the service. The post holder is expected to conduct themselves professionally, to work within the current legislative framework and adhere to the Organisation Policies and Procedures at all times.

KEY DUTIES

To work in a positive, respectful and empowering way with all young people in order to promote good relationships and encourage achievement and proactively ensure the outstanding care of young people. To interact on an individual and group basis with all young people and provide a positive role model, maintaining high professional standards at all times.

To maintain appropriate routines, limits and boundaries for the young people at all times and encourage young people to understand the importance of action and consequence and the importance of appropriate positive relationships.

To support the educational development and achievements of the young people, and remain informed about educational matters and contribute to the development of educational opportunities inherent in the home.

To act, as key worker to a particular young person in order to provide support and ensure the implementation of their individual care plan. To attend child care reviews and contribute to the assessment and care planning process and ensure high standards of safe working practices are adhered to at all times.

To contribute to the development of daily programmes and individual/group plans and actively participate in social, recreational and educational activities with the young people. To participate in and encourage the participation of the young people in the domestic tasks of the home in order to develop their self-care skills.

To liaise and collaborate positively with parents and partner agencies to ensure that the best interests of the young people are respected and promoted at all times. To maintain, where appropriate, all necessary records in a timely manner and to a high standard.

To remain well informed about latest practice, research policy and legislative developments in relation to child care. Promote the organisations' ethos of providing an appropriate environment of safety and positive outcomes for all children in our care. To undertake other reasonable duties as identified by the line manager from time to time

To keep up to date with the latest (developments/research/practice) in respect of the post holders area of work, in order to improve your own performance of the role on a year on year basis, including participation in any performance appraisal system.

Additional information

The employees at Cherished Beginnings work directly with the service users and can on occasion be physically demanding, therefore employees must be able to undertake all the requirements of the job and requisite training in full. For the safety of staff and the service users, training will be provided to assist employees to carry out their role, specifically the Emergency First Aid and Physical intervention training (this provides staff with the skills to carry out the sometimes necessary safe holds in a non threatening way). Employees will be required to fully participate in all training.
