Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting the kitchen staff with food preparation and maintaining a clean and organised kitchen environment. This position is perfect for individuals looking to gain experience in the culinary field, whether in a restaurant, catering, or other food service settings.

Duties

  • Assist in food preparation tasks, including chopping, slicing, and measuring ingredients for various meals.
  • Support meal preparation by following recipes and instructions provided by the head chef or cook.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene throughout all kitchen operations.
  • Help with the cleaning and sanitising of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces to ensure a tidy workspace.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service of meals during busy periods.
  • Assist in inventory management by checking stock levels and reporting any shortages to the supervisor.
  • Participate in catering events as required, ensuring that all food items are prepared according to specifications.

Skills

  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not essential; enthusiasm for culinary arts is key.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations is highly desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members.
  • A willingness to learn and take direction from experienced cooks and chefs.
  • Basic cooking skills are an advantage, along with a passion for food preparation and presentation.
