Job summary

Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government's immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. It also aims to disrupt the organised criminal groups that exploit the vulnerable for their personal gain. Learn more on the Immigration Enforcement careers page.

Immigration Prison Teams (IPT) is the operational arm of Foreign National Offenders Removals Command (FNORC) and comprises of 15 teams based in a variety of locations across the country.

This includes embedded teams in prisons and mobile teams nationwide. You will be working in the operational arm of the Home Office's Foreign National Offender Returns Command, Immigration Prison Team.

Job description

You will have the opportunity to work in a fast paced and unique working environment, you will be based within HMP Wormwood Scrubs and may be required to travel to other HMP locations within the region. You will be providing administrative support to the operational officers by ensuring urgent cases are flagged and the required paperwork is available for service from case working colleagues. This may include you being confident and managing potentially difficult and challenging situations.

This role requires the regular maintenance and management of internal spreadsheets to facilitate the accurate extraction of Management Information for senior managers. A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and SharePoint is essential.

You will need to be open and adaptive to changing priorities and working in a pressurised operational environment where sometimes cases have to be progressed very quickly. This will involve being organised and ensuring inboxes and phone calls are monitored and flagged to Immigration Officers or Chief Immigration Officers when required.

The role also entails regular engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be expected to build and maintain effective working relationships to support the command in achieving its Key Performance Indicators.

The role is key to the success of the team, contributing to the removal of Foreign National Offenders who meet the criteria for deportation, or the structured re-integration of Foreign National Offenders into communities where deportation is not appropriate.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responding to enquiries received by e-mail and letter where appropriate. Respond to queries by telephone where possible, referring to an Immigration Officer or Chief Immigration Officer as required.
  • Creating Induction sheets from Reception lists to ensure all receptions are inducted.
  • Maintaining excel spreadsheet ensure data quality and accuracy at all times.
  • Reviewing the Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork (ACCT) List on a daily basis and ensure foreign nationals on the list are highlighted to the team.
  • Supporting the colleagues, ensuring they have all the information they need to conduct efficient and effective Immigration Surgeries and service of paperwork.
  • Conducting DVA checks for potential British Nationals and provide copies of potential matches for the FN held in custody.
  • Monitoring and booking team Asylum and Screening interviews in line with policy.

Working Pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. The expectation is for full attendance at the prison and other locations aligned with the region.

Person specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence and experience in working in partnership with external partners, engaging and building trust with stakeholders to generate commitment to goals.
  • IT skills including Word, Excel and Power point.
  • Strong attention to detail and well organised in order to prioritise workload.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of immigration processes.
Licences

Due to the nature of the work and/or the geographical area, driving is a key requirement for this role. Applicants must have a full valid UK manual/automatic driving licence.
