JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced Design Studio Manager to lead and manage our localisation Motion & Static Graphics department. This is a management-focused role responsible for the day-to-day running of the team, including performance management, one-to-ones, career development, recruitment, and employee relations. This role does not involve hands-on GFX design work.

The Head of Localisation Design will ensure the department operates efficiently, with clear structures and workflows, while fostering a motivated, collaborative, and high-performing team. They will also work closely with other departments to optimise workflows across theatrical, broadcast, online, social, print and digital localisation projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Management & Leadership

  • Take full line management responsibility for the Localisation design department, including all direct reports and senior team members.
  • Conduct regular one-to-ones, formal appraisals, and ongoing performance reviews to support development, monitor progress, and recognise achievements.
  • Ensure that team members' weekly hours reports are accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
  • Set clear objectives, KPIs, and career development plans for each team member, ensuring alignment with departmental and company goals.
  • Manage employee relations, including disciplinary matters, grievances, and conflict resolution, ensuring fair, consistent, and supportive application of company policies.
  • Mentor and coach team members to build skills, confidence, and a high standard of work, while fostering wellbeing and engagement.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on team performance, workload, and project progress.

Workflow & Operations

  • Analyse and optimise departmental workflows to ensure efficiency and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Department, Production, Account Management, Facilities, IT, and Finance to establish smooth cross-departmental workflows.
  • Implement and maintain automated workflows where possible to support scalability and efficiency.
  • Act as the point of escalation for workflow challenges, ensuring issues are addressed and resolved promptly.
  • To support departmental tasks as and when required.

Project Oversight & Planning

  • Oversee project delivery to ensure schedules, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Work with the Studio Manager to forward plan departmental resources in line with demand.

EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • 5+ years' experience managing a team of motion graphics designers.
  • General understanding of motion & static graphics software and packages, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Cinema 4D, to effectively oversee workflows and liaise with the team.
  • Good understanding of motion & static graphics production workflows, hardware, and project deliverables.
  • Proven experience leading a team, including performance management, career development, and employee relations.
  • Experience handling performance management, disciplinary matters, grievances, and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaboration across departments.
  • Solutions-focused with a proactive approach to workflow optimisation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Positive attitude, approachability, and the ability to lead by example.
