Job Summary

Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety strategies and policies to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with legislation. Key duties include conducting risk assessments and site inspections, creating and delivering safety training, investigating incidents, and advising on legal and operational safety standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Strategy and Policy:

Design and implement the organisation's overall health and safety strategy and develop internal policies and procedures.

  • Risk Management:

Perform risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement procedures to reduce risks and prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases.

  • Inspections and Audits:

Conduct regular site inspections and audits to check that safety policies and procedures are being followed and are compliant with legislation.

  • Training and Communication:

Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for managers and employees to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities.

  • Incident Management:

Investigate accidents and incidents, record findings, and produce reports and statistics to identify areas for improvement.

  • Legal Compliance:

Stay up-to-date with all current health and safety legislation and advise the organisation on how to comply with all relevant laws.

  • Reporting:

Prepare reports, newsletters, and bulletins on health and safety performance for management.

  • Specialist Advice:

Advise on a range of specialist areas, such as fire regulations, the safe disposal of hazardous substances, and machinery safety.

Required skills and qualities

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Ability to perform risk assessments and audits.
  • Salary Dependant on qualifications & experience.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a health and safety management role within a similar industry.
  • Relevant qualifications such as ISO45001 is preferred but not essential
  • First aid certification is highly desirable but not essential
  • Strong report writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise documentation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis techniques to investigate incidents thoroughly.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • A proactive approach to identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions. This position offers an engaging environment where your expertise will directly contribute to the wellbeing of our workforce while fostering a culture of continuous safety improvement.

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: £18.00-£25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 per week
