Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to residents in a safe and comfortable environment. The Health Care Assistant will help residents with their daily needs, promote dignity and independence, and work as part of a caring team under the guidance of the Registered Nurse and Manager.

Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care and Support

  • Assist residents with personal care tasks such as washing, dressing, toileting, and grooming.
  • Support residents with mobility, including using hoists and other moving and handling equipment safely.
  • Help residents at mealtimes — assisting with feeding and monitoring food and fluid intake.
  • Encourage independence and choice wherever possible.

Emotional and Social Support

  • Provide companionship and emotional support to residents.
  • Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere within the home.
  • Support residents to take part in activities, hobbies, and social events.

Health and Safety

  • Follow care plans and report any changes in residents' health or wellbeing to the nurse or manager.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records, including daily notes and charts.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow infection control, safeguarding, and health and safety procedures.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Work closely with nurses and other care staff to deliver a high standard of care.
  • Attend handovers, staff meetings, and mandatory training sessions.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with residents, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (preferred)
  • Previous experience in a care or nursing home setting is desirable but not essential — full training will be provided.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • A caring, patient, and reliable attitude.
