The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust wishes to appoint a highly motivated Band 7 Clinical Scientist within the Department of Nuclear Medicine.
This role will be based at Northampton General Hospital in the provision of a Nuclear Medicine scientist service for University Hospitals Northamptonshire (UHN).
The successful applicant is expected to be a registered Clinical Scientist, ideally with some experience across all areas of Nuclear Medicine.
The UHN Nuclear Medicine service is provided over 2 sites, Northampton General Hospital (NGH) and Kettering General Hospital (KGH). It covers a wide range of diagnostic tests and therapeutic studies.
There are 4 gamma cameras across the 2 sites; 1 dedicated cardiac, 1 standard gamma camera and 2 others with CT capability . There is an onsite Radiopharmacy at NGH. The molecular radiotherapy service includes iodine ablation therapy, thyrotoxicosis therapy and Xofigo.
The department participates in clinical research trials. PET-CT is provided at NGH by Alliance Medical Ltd for which UHL currently provide RPA, RWA and MPE services.
There will be full support from and access to the Nuclear Medicine team at UHL, including the Head of Nuclear Medicine Physics, Specialist Clinical Scientists and Clinical Scientists. There would be flexibility for time to spend in Nuclear Medicine at UHL for expansion of knowledge and management support, including meetings and CPD. This may involve onsite visits to UHL and remote working.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will prioritise and manage their own work to provide scientific support to the service. The post holder will apply a broad range of scientific skills, knowledge and experience in Nuclear Medicine and will liaise closely with the scientific, medical, technical, nursing and other staff to deliver an effective diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine service.

- Significant experience of implementing Nuclear Medicine principles in practice.

- Knowledge of wider clinical issues and their implications for Nuclear Medicine diagnosis and therapy
- Understanding patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure.
- Working understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines, including: IRR, IR(ME)R, EPR 2016
- Able to use spreadsheet applications (e.g. MS-Excel) to store and analyse complex datasets
- Able to use word-processing applications (e.g. MS-Word) to produce professional reports and other documents
