About the Role:

Finastra is seeking a proactive and skilled System Engineer with deep Linux expertise to join our dedicated team. In this hands-on role, you will manage and support our data centres, servers, and network infrastructure that underpin our service delivery to customers. This position offers a dynamic environment where you'll work closely with teams and clients, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across a broad technology landscape including Linux, virtualization, storage, and networking.

What Will You Contribute?

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of Linux-based servers and infrastructure in a high-availability environment.

  • Build, maintain, upgrade, and decommission servers within our private cloud environment.

  • Support data integrity through replication, backup, and recovery processes.

  • Collaborate with the team during regular travel to our data centre sites in Manchester and near Leeds.

  • Contribute to regular on-site work at our office in Bangor, Gwynedd, North Wales.

  • Lead self-initiated projects from planning through to implementation.

  • Work closely with internal clients (development, sales) to deliver successful projects and reliable services to customers.

  • Assist with hardware lifecycle management.

  • Respond promptly to infrastructure emergencies and maintenance windows.

  • Document system configurations, procedures, and changes effectively.

Required Experience:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with Linux environments, gained professionally or through personal projects.

  • Experience with Linux server building, maintenance, and decommissioning.

  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms, especially VMware; Proxmox experience is desirable.

  • Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals.

  • Familiarity with storage systems and principles, and backup/recovery strategies.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on process documentation.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail, with proficiency in standard office applications.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in database management: installation, privilege management, backup/recovery.

  • Basic understanding of data centre hardware components.

  • Certifications such as Linux/Unix admin, VMware, storage, or networking certificates.

  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.

  • Familiarity with high-availability systems and disaster recovery concepts.

  • Experience working within regulated or financial service environments is a plus.
