Key Duties

Working flexibly as part of a dedicated team, including some evening and weekend working, you will:

  • Provide detailed professional advice and guidance on postgraduate recruitment best practice to internal and external customers, and guiding colleagues in recruitment best practice.
  • Undertake postgraduate recruitment activities including the preparation and delivery of presentations, managing and attending education exhibitions (in-person and online), and organising and hosting inward visits to the University.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for postgraduate recruitment, constantly refreshing knowledge through training and research
  • Encourage and assist students who have had a period of time away from learning, and those from non-traditional backgrounds, to embark on postgraduate study
  • Identify, research and propose solutions to issues related to postgraduate recruitment
  • Establish excellent working relationships with key contacts across the institution to progress postgraduate recruitment activity
  • Support with the production of the annual postgraduate prospectus
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop and deliver annual marketing campaigns targeting graduates from other institutions and to specifically promote PGT conversion courses and additional campaigns
  • Lead on the annual campaign promoting postgraduate study opportunities to current Cardiff undergraduates and Cardiff graduates
  • Work closely with the CRM team to ensure the delivery of targeted email communications for UK postgraduate pre-applicants, applicants and offer holders, and help implement new developments in this area to support postgraduate recruitment
  • Lead on the development and delivery of direct mail campaigns to promote postgraduate study to key target audiences, including final year undergraduates at Cardiff
  • Project manage the Discover Cardiff Postgraduate webinar series
  • Support with the delivery of a variety of on-campus and virtual postgraduate recruitment events which might include open days, postgrad café's, campus tours etc
  • Manage your own learning and development in discussion with your line manager
  • You may be asked to perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

1. Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

2. Substantial experience of working in marketing/student recruitment

3. Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within marketing/student recruitment to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers

4. Ability to set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate

5. Ability to work efficiently, accurately and calmly under pressure with proven organisational skills

Customer Service, Communication and Team Working

6. Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people

7. Ability to work well within a team to achieve the team's objectives, but also to work independently when working away from the office

8. Evidence of ability to explore customers' needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered

Planning, Analysis and Problem solving

9. Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within marketing and postgraduate student recruitment

10. Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes.

Additional Information

The role may include some evening and weekend working and travel across the UK.

It should also be noted that it will not normally be possible to take annual leave on undergraduate and postgraduate open days and on A-level Results Day in August.

About the Department

The Communications and Marketing Department is responsible for the University's reputation and branding as well as UK/International student recruitment operations. It covers six areas: communications and public affairs, marketing, UK student recruitment and outreach, digital communications, international and admissions.

Communications plays an important part in building and maintaining the reputation of the University through effective communication to the public and to external and internal stakeholders. It communicates the achievements and aspirations of the University through a variety of media and includes a film unit. The team represents the University on a corporate level. Public affairs lead on stakeholder relationships locally, nationally and internationally.

Digital Communications is responsible for the design, development and content of the external website and the intranet.Marketing is responsible for developing a strong brand identity for the University at the corporate level, with an emphasis on better visual branding and market research.

UK Student recruitment and Outreach plays an important role in attracting the University's undergraduate and postgraduate students from throughout the UK; in addition to managing the University's widening participation activities.

The International Office drives the University's international recruitment strategy and advises on all areas related to international recruitment and development.Admissions are responsible for managing thousands of applications each year from both UK and international students, as well as leading on the development and implementation of our admissions policies.
