Wordsmith
Most legal teams are drowning. They're buried under internal questions, contract reviews, policy approvals, and fire drills from every corner of the business.
Wordsmith is the AI command center for in-house legal. We automate the chaos—intake, Q&A, redlines, drafting, and research—so legal can finally operate at the speed of business.
Backed by Index Ventures and some of the sharpest minds in law and AI, we're scaling fast across London, New York, and beyond. Our customers include fast-growth tech companies and public enterprises. We're building the future of legal work.
The Role
We're looking for a People Operations Specialist to join Wordsmith and take ownership of the systems and processes that keep our team running smoothly.
You'll work closely with our Head of Talent (who leads hiring) and partners in BizOps to make sure everything after day one feels just as sharp. It's a hands-on, wide-ranging role where you'll balance detail-oriented ops work with creative projects that make Wordsmith a great place to work.
What you'll do:
- Own the employee lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, contracts, benefits, and HR systems
- Coordinate inputs with our external payroll partner to keep things running smoothly
- Be a first point of contact for people questions and manager support
- Plan and deliver onboarding, events, and initiatives that strengthen culture and engagement
- Keep our policies and processes clear, simple, and fit for a fast-growing startup
- Track and share key people insights (e.g. engagement, retention) with leadership
- Spot opportunities to simplify and improve how we work as we scale
What we're looking for:
- 2–4 years in People Ops, HR, or a similar role (startup/scale-up a plus)
- Experience with HR administration and coordinating benefits
- Organised and detail-focused – you keep the small things from slipping through
- Comfortable working with HR systems and tools
- Friendly, approachable communicator who enjoys supporting colleagues
Bonus Points For:
- Experience working with external payroll or benefits partners
- Event planning or employee engagement projects
- Knowledge of both UK and US employment basics
- Creative ideas for recognition, wellbeing, or employee experience
What you can expect:
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity upside
- A broad, varied role with direct access to leadership, Talent, and BizOps
- The chance to build the foundations of People Ops in a scaling startup
- Progression as we expand the People team
- A supportive, ambitious team building something category-defining
If you're looking for more than just a job - a place to learn, grow, and have a real impact from day one - this could be the one. We're building something exciting, and we're looking for people who want to be part of the journey. If that sounds like you, hit apply.
