Technical Waste Administrator

Job Overview
Shred Station is looking for a Technical Waste Administrator to manage incoming waste collection requests and support compliant waste movements. This is an admin-heavy role, but it needs someone who genuinely understands waste classification and compliance, including EWC codes, WM3 guidance, and hazardous waste requirements.
You'll be the key point of contact ensuring collections are booked accurately, described correctly, and supported with the right documentation—keeping customers, transport partners, and internal teams moving efficiently and compliantly
What you'll do
- Process waste collection requests from customers (phone/email/portal), ensuring all information is complete and correct.
- Classify waste streams using EWC codes and apply WM3 to support correct descriptions and hazard assessment inputs (where applicable).
- Identify hazardous vs non-hazardous waste and ensure correct handling routes, packaging requirements, and regulatory controls are followed.
- Prepare and check documentation (e.g., consignment notes, transfer notes, descriptions, weights/containers), ensuring accuracy and traceability.
- Maintain strong records in internal systems—updating customer details, waste specs, collection status, and compliance notes.
- Spot issues early (incorrect coding, missing information, incompatible wastes, unclear descriptions) and escalate to the appropriate technical/compliance lead.
- Support audits and reporting by ensuring paperwork and digital records are complete and easy to retrieve.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Experience in an administrative role handling waste collections, waste movements, or waste compliance.
- Working knowledge of EWC codes and practical ability to select/validate codes from customer descriptions.
- Familiarity with WM3 guidance and the basics of waste classification (including hazardous properties and when additional info/testing may be needed).
- Understanding of hazardous waste requirements (e.g., consignment processes, segregation principles, accurate descriptions).
- Strong attention to detail & able to manage multiple requests without paperwork or coding errors.
- Confident communicator & able to ask the right technical questions with customers and explain what's needed clearly.
Desirable:
- Experience producing/checking hazardous waste consignment notes and waste transfer notes.
- Knowledge of Duty of Care expectations and document retention best practice.
- Experience working with carriers/brokers and coordinating multi-site or repeat collections.
- Competent with CRM/booking systems and Excel (tracking, reporting, reconciliations).
Why join us?
- A role with real responsibility and clear impact on compliance and customer service.
- Supportive, practical team that values doing things properly.
- Training and progression opportunities for the right person (technical waste/compliance pathway).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
- Free parking
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
