Financial Crime Risk Manager

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Metro Bank (UK) Full time

As Risk Manager you will identify and manage operational, conduct and financial crime risks within Institutional Banking & Professional Services (IB&PS), promote the adherence and execution of end-to-end controls, and help all areas of the team to deliver operational, conduct and financial crime priorities.

You will achieve this through strong internal stakeholder engagement, coordination of operational, conduct and financial crime change and projects, and provision of status updates through the Bank's various risk committees.

We strongly believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace and to find the very best person for the job, we always look across a wide range of diverse communities.

What You Will Do

  • Support the first line of defence with operational and conduct risk and financial crime matters to ensure compliance with the Bank's policies, minimum standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate operational and conduct risk within IB&PS arising from change and technology projects, annual product reviews, assurance and audit reviews, and self-assessment processes including the risk control self assessment and vulnerable customers maturity assessment.
  • Represent IB&PS in internal governance forums, and change, business readiness and transformation meetings where they relate to financial crime or other risk disciplines, including contribution to working groups set up to improve processes, manage issues under management or incidents, or close policy gaps.
  • Identify issues where processes could be improved or where risk management gaps are evident and endeavour to create solutions to bridge the gap and create more efficient processes.
  • Manage the Business Continuity Plan and Business Impact assessment of IB&PS, and assist RMs with bump ups related to operational resilience, incident management, vulnerable customers, conduct risk and compliance with Consumer Duty.
  • Help educate other business areas and key internal stakeholders on the unique areas of IB&PS and our financial crime, operational and conduct risks, to help them understand our processes and business context.
  • Provide weekly updates to the IB&PS management team, including changes to internal policies and procedures, and cascade requirements to the wider IB&PS team.

And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the courage to call out any concerns.

What You Will Need

  • Understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders.
  • Prior exposure to IB&PS sectors and transactional banking products for intermediary sectors.
  • Change, transformation or project management in a regulated financial services environment.
  • Proficient at developing relationships both internally and externally.
  • Preparing, analysing and monitoring Management Information.
  • Worked in a compliance-based environment with a strong understanding of conduct and operational risk, AML, PEP/SIP management and financial crime regulation.
  • Be able to build, develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in IB&PS, notably team heads and the team's Financial Crime Risk Manager; colleagues in FCO, FCRC and FCPT, Compliance, Legal, Operational Resilience, and Customer Relations; and risk managers across the first line of defence.
  • Strong planning and prioritisation skills to deliver risk change and improvement, and timely submissions to the Bank's risk governance forums.
  • Excellent communication and internal relationship management skills with the drive to deliver the right outcomes for the Bank and its customers.
  • A solutions-based mindset, being able to think of different ways of delivering improvement to the risk and controls the environment.

Our promise to you…

  • We will make sure that you are well-rewarded by providing you with a competitive salary, discretionary annual bonus, and a wide range of benefits, including generous holiday allowance, attractive pension scheme, healthcare, life assurance, and a number of colleague discounts
  • We will give you the training to ensure you succeed in your role and plenty of internal opportunities to progress your career (around 40% of our recruitment comes from internal promotions).
  • We are also all about balance so most of our jobs offer the opportunity for hybrid working built around your role and home life, wherever possible.

Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box. We also know that 'normal' office hours aren't always doable, and while we can't accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked. So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren't sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Please note that sometimes we may close a job earlier for applications if we are inundated with amazing candidates.. Good luck
