An exciting opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital as a Foundation Ocularist within the Department of Ocular Prosthetics. Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is the leading Trust for teaching, research and specialist services in the North West of England. We provide an extensive range of district general hospital services to the local population of central Manchester and tertiary and specialist services to patients from across the North West and beyond. One such specialist service is the Ocular Prosthetics service at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital which is one of only a handful of centres in the UK. We are looking for a hard‑working, conscientious and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. You will have a mature and thorough approach to your work and a calm, reassuring and sympathetic nature. This position offers an opportunity to develop a wide range of skills to become an ocularist by perfecting the necessary skills to prescribe, design, fabricate and clinically fit custom‑made ocular prostheses and other complex custom‑made medical devices. In return we will provide a comprehensive induction programme, and you will be appraised on a yearly basis with a view to developing knowledge and skills where appropriate. To develop specialised skills to become an ocularist by perfecting the necessary skills to prescribe, design, fabricate and clinically fit custom‑made ocular prostheses and other complex custom‑made medical devices. To assist in the provision of the rehabilitative service provided by the department for patients who have undergone radical surgery for trauma, disease and malignancy by means of highly specialised skills. Developed skills will be assessed and signed off at regular intervals by the Ocularists.
