Real Estate Lawyer – Projects and Public Law (1243) Our Public Law and Projects team works on projects across England and Wales spanning a variety of sectors. These projects often involve regeneration incorporating housing, education and public services infrastructure, all of which have a public sector or public law element. The multidisciplinary team brings together specialists with deep experience and technical expertise in different fields to support challenging, complex projects. No two projects are the same, and our lawyers thrive on applying their knowledge to unique situations, drawing on the team’s expertise to identify bespoke client‑centric solutions. Our passion for contributing to successful outcomes with a strong social value element makes this work truly special. Due to our continued success supporting public sector clients, the team is growing. We are looking for a lawyer with a real estate focus to join us in Southampton, Newcastle or Leeds. What is the role? You will be part of a nationally recognised team, focusing on a broad range of real estate transactions with a public sector element. Working with Real Estate specialists Siân Ballingall and Peter Cantwell, and alongside other brilliant experts, you will handle matters such as large‑scale development schemes, acquisitions, disposals, landlord and tenant issues, often involving procurement, subsidy, and other public sector considerations. The work is wide‑ranging, challenging, and offers ample opportunity for personal and professional growth. You will join a close‑knit group of straight‑forward, supportive lawyers who love what they do, proactively find unique solutions for clients, and thrive on unconventional legal challenges. Regardless of location, you will have a good blend of local and national work, client contact, and opportunities to build strong relationships with clients. Business development is important for all lawyers, and you will contribute to the team's growth through local client events, reputation building, and identifying further success opportunities. Mentoring less experienced members and sharing knowledge in this specialist area will also be part of the role. In summary, this is a great opportunity to make your mark in a growing team of committed, like‑minded lawyers. Further develop your real estate experience by learning from and working with top public sector lawyers as part of our national team, and help drive the success of nationally important projects. What does the ideal candidate look like? We welcome solicitors with experience across a wide range of real estate transactions. Experience working on public sector projects is an advantage but not required. An interest in the sectors we are instructed in and a strong desire to learn are essential. Key skills and experience include: Qualified solicitor with the right to practice in England and Wales – essential. At least three years post‑qualification experience with a well‑developed technical understanding of a broad range of real estate transactions. Ability to work independently with confidence to manage unique transactions, coupled with commercial judgment about when to involve colleagues. Excellent technical and drafting skills. Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines, working at pace on complex, high‑value transactions. Positive attitude to learning, with a desire to research tasks and ask questions. Willingness to support business development activities. What makes it great to work here – a point of view like no other We see things differently and our approach reflects that in all areas of our business. As a team of over 1,300 lawyers and technical specialists, we continue to deliver trail‑blazing work for exceptional clients. We invest in technology, set legal precedents and challenge perceptions. We are proud of a unique open and person‑centric culture that sets us apart. Our award‑winning Responsible Business and ESG agenda, embedded DE&I initiatives led by our Board‑sponsored DE&I group and support of the Mindful Business Charter support our endeavours to ensure our people maintain healthy and happy lives, inside and outside of work. We offer flexible working, full‑time or part‑time patterns. Learn more about our DE&I initiatives here.
