Solicitor (Real Estate) Waverley Court Salary: £54,476 - £65,184 Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks The City of Edinburgh Council's in‑house legal team has an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor to join its Real Estate team. Applicants should have experience of property law and specific experience of investment work; residential‑development experience would be helpful, although not necessary. Experience of working for a public‑sector organisation would be desirable, but not essential. Team Structure The Real Estate team consists of the Principal Solicitor, eight Senior Solicitors, two Solicitors, and a trainee Solicitor. Responsibilities Drafting and negotiating planning agreements Providing planning advice, including planning appeals/hearings Managing sales and purchases Handling investment leasing and asset management Engaging in development work Providing operational property advice Addressing general housing law matters Supporting high‑profile capital projects Balancing development with the protection of Edinburgh’s historic sites Requirements Experience of property law and investment work (residential‑development experience an advantage) Experience working for a public‑sector organisation (desirable) Professional and commercial acumen to ensure legal advice is relevant and appropriate Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work as part of a team to find solutions to complex problems Contract and Working Hours This is a full‑time position, 36 hours per week (or such other hours as agreed). Flexible working arrangements, including reduced hours, are available. Pre‑employment Checks Applicants will be required to undergo a satisfactory Standard Disclosure Scotland check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will also be required. An unconditional offer and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both pre‑employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
