City of Edinburgh, United Kingdom The City of Edinburgh Council Full time

Job Details Solicitor (Real Estate) – Waverley Court – Salary: £54,476 - £65,184 – Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks Responsibilities Join the City of Edinburgh Council’s in‑house legal team to support the Real Estate department. Your role will involve drafting and negotiating planning agreements, advising on planning, appeals and hearings, managing sales and purchases, investment leasing, asset management, development work, operational property advice and general housing law. You will also provide support for high‑profile capital projects and work within a collective culture that balances development with the protection of Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage status. Qualifications Applicants should have experience of property law and specific experience of investment work; residential development experience is helpful but not essential. Experience working for a public sector organisation would be desirable, but is not essential. The Real Estate team consists of the Principal Solicitor, eight Senior Solicitors, two Solicitors and a trainee Solicitor. Applicants will also be expected to draw upon professional and commercial acumen to ensure that all legal advice is relevant and appropriate. A positive attitude, a willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team to find solutions to complex problems are essential. Working Conditions & Pre‑Employment Checks The position is advertised as a full‑time role of 36 hours per week, with flexible options available. The post is subject to a satisfactory Standard Disclosure Scotland check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. Successful completion of both checks is required for an unconditional offer. Diversity & Working Culture We are committed to creating a workplace culture where all people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work. We recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce and are serious about bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills but also in their approach to work. Interview & Assessment Approach We are moving from a competency‑based interview to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. A candidate’s behaviours—respect, integrity and flexibility—will be assessed in the context of the job. Salary and Flexibility Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and increases annually until it reaches the top of the range. We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements. #J-18808-Ljbffr
