Senior Solicitor – Real Estate and Planning Location: Waverley Court, EdinburghSalary: £65,184 – £77,845 (pro‑rata for part‑time)Hours: 36 per week (full‑time or flexible part‑time possible) Overview The City of Edinburgh Council’s in‑house legal team seeks a Senior Solicitor to join its Real Estate group. The successful candidate will advise on both commercial property and planning law, supporting a range of high‑profile development projects throughout Edinburgh and beyond. Responsibilities Advise on development agreements, site assembly, commercial leasing, purchases, sales, asset management and residential lease matters. Provide planning and building control advice, including s75 agreements, enforcement actions, judicial reviews, CPOs and policy support. Support high‑profile capital projects and work unique to local authorities, such as the Low Emission Zone, compulsory purchase and nature reserve dedications. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team comprising the Principal Solicitor, eight Senior Solicitors, one Solicitor and a trainee Solicitor. Draw upon professional and commercial acumen to ensure all legal advice is relevant and appropriate. Qualifications Experience in commercial property law, planning law or a combination of both. Experience working for a public sector organisation is desirable. Positive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to work as part of a team to find solutions to complex problems.
