Process Engineering Manager opportunity near Leeds

Leading the production process engineering team, reporting to the Head of Manufacturing Engineering, you will assist in evaluating and mitigating risks associated with new designs and products along with changes to existing designs. You will lead your teamto deliver work allocations, manpower planning, standardised work inputs (SOPs, Yamazumi, ERP inputs etc..). On a day-to-day basis you will ensure the team are focused on priorities to support daily production, alongside longer term strategy & transformationalprojects.

As an inspirational leader, you will coach and motivate your team to be the best they can be. You will set targets and objectives that stretch people to deliver and which drive significant improvement into the business. Sitting as part of the factory leadershipteam, you will liaise with your peers and the wider team to deliver an on time and to standard production process that is cost effective - seeking to improve process capability using a considered approach.

Process Engineering Manager summary;
- Co-ordinate day to day planning and execution of the production process engineering team activities.
- Attend daily production meeting and act upon issues requiring manufacturing engineering support.
- Own and maintain both forward planning and day to day manpower planning, ensuring clear communication & consideration of model mix. Working closely with the production operations and IT team to develop a more efficient & flexible line allocation system(currently excel based).
- Lead both current model and future model activities across the manufacturing engineering team.
- Manage CAPEX budgets to specify, configure and source such external equipment as is required for the manufacturing processes.
- Lead the design review process for future products in CAD prior to on-line production. Developing a scoring criterion to assess risk.
- Ensure compliance with ISO / NHBC / BOPAS and other governing & regulatory bodies through robust standard operating & departmental procedures.
- Engage with other functions to get stuff done Ensure all roadblocks to meeting team deliverables are understood and escalated appropriately.
- Promote and coach problem solving through capture method - seek containment actions to enable build continuation - driving issues to root cause.
- Support with the implementation of processes in line with LEAN principles to deliver new products, evolutions of existing products and other improvements such as are required to maintain and improve the economic viability of the product.
- Create an inclusive environment, whereby all team members are happy to raise issues and feel empowered to make a difference.
- Drive station readiness metrics to ensure documentation, tooling, material & station layout, skills requirements etc.. are all in place ahead of any changes.
- Identify, scope & cost & develop justifications for future productivity improvement projects, through use of the A3 tool. These will include increased automation / process efficiency projects in the future.
- Scope and establish maintenance procedures and maintenance operating model within ilke homes.
- Ownership of manufacturing facility layout + station layout. Consideration of 5S principles during work-station design to ensure everything has a place.
- A good degree level qualification in an engineering, manufacturing or science-based discipline.
- Extensive previous experience within a medium to fast paced flow-line environment manufacturing product with high option / variant content to a cycle time. Experience within MMC / Modular industry is preferred.
- Knowledge of generating & utilising DFMEA / PFMEA to understand and mitigate risks.
- Knowledge of DFA (Design for assembly) principles to drive productivity & reduce errors.
- Green belt Six Sigma trained - preferred. Minimum of practical problem-solving experience or 8D problem solving methodology.
- Extensive experience in manpower planning & forecasting. Coupled with demonstrable experience of managing takt time / line allocation changes within a manufacturing facility employing both manual & automated processes.
- Working knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and LOTO preferred - alongside knowledge of manual & ergonomic assessments.
- Ability to visualise timing / project plans from initiation to delivery - by means of a master schedule or Gantt chart.
- Ability to interpret dimensional data from product measurement studies & influence future design to reduce risk of error through effective system tolerancing.
- Possessing an established network outside modular construction to support future growth / benchmarking of other industries.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to flex style. Comfortable in giving feedback up, down and across the organisation.
- Experience of developing a team & identifying future talent / skill requirements. Experienced in interviewing, assessment and selection of future employees.
- Positive, self-motivated and able to work effectively
