Purpose of the Role
A successful Body Assembly Manufacturing Engineer will use their process improvement experience to quantitatively assess current production/business system performance and execute change to reduce cost and optimise capacity.
This role demands excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a holistic understanding of manufacturing operations.
Manufacturing engineers will be responsible for continuously improving and developing the manufacturing processes that our production team members use to build our cars.
This position will be responsible for accepting new model build processes from our Future Manufacturing Engineering teams and developing them within Series production. This includes continuous process improvement, quality lead investigations, and industrial engineering tools and techniques.

Principal Accountabilities:
The update and control of the following deliverables for existing series models:

- Process sequencing, documentation, and product traceability methodologies.
- Update process documentation, PFMEA's, and Quality Control Plans.
- Implement and control Lean Manufacturing and error-proofing strategies, validate load paths, tool access, and ergonomics for series models.
- Hours per Car (HPC) generation and reporting:
- Ownership and maintenance of the HPC data for existing models, ensuring plant efficiency and output targets can be achieved.
- Work with other operational teams to identify and resolve production bottlenecks.
- Utilise analytic problem-solving skills, including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, 4M's, PDCA.
- Implement and expand concepts such as Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, etc., to reduce manufacturing cost and increase process quality and throughput.
- Support Future Manufacturing Engineering Team in the development and delivery of Body in White tooling solutions.
- Line balancing and manpower allocation.
- Familiarity with automated manufacturing equipment.
- Provide leadership to cross-functional teams and manufacturing engineers regarding manufacturing process and capability.
- Facility layout and utilisation:
- Collaborating with Future Manufacturing Engineering teams in leading the design of new or amendments to existing layouts and material flow to ensure new models align with the overall plan and vision for the facility.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- A degree in mechanical/automotive engineering or similar (2:1 or above) or equivalent experience in a similar role.
- Ideally, you will have experience with:
- Specification and procurement of major assembly equipment.
- Planning and execution of vehicle programmes.
- Complex vehicle systems.
- Vehicle assembly processes.
- Body assembly processes.
- Identifying resolutions for product-related issues, ensuring all quality targets are achieved.
- Implementation of safe working practices.
- Proficiency with CATIA; 3D experience is desired, but not required.

- You will need to travel to off-site development facilities within the UK and throughout Europe; therefore, a flexible approach to travel is required.
- You will have the determination to drive forward the business to 'Best in Class' performance standards in line with brand expectations and be a lateral thinker able to think outside of the box to make structured and objective decisions.
- Other traits of a successful employee will include excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to all levels of the business. Excellent attention to detail and strong data analysis skills, including the use of all Microsoft Office applications, specifically Microsoft Excel
