Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS), Cellular Pathology Department.
We are seeking applications from suitably qualified, self-motivated and enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists with appropriate experience in Cellular Pathology for the role of Lead Biomedical Scientist (BMS).
NMCPS Cellular Pathology processes more than 70,000 surgical cases, 5500 non-gynaecological cytology cases.
As Lead BMS, you will provide expert and operational leadership to a large and complex network laboratory.
NMCPS aims to provide a world-class integrated diagnostic service, where patients receive the highest standards of care and the best people come to work, learn and research.
Our mission is to create a large and diverse Cellular Pathology Department providing individuals with personalised and flexible working patterns to support their professional interests and development.
Flexible working, including agile working, is supported by the department.
Main duties of the job We are seeking applications from suitably qualified, self-motivated and enthusiastic Biomedical Scientists with appropriate experience in Cellular Pathology for the role of NMPCS Cellular Pathology Lead BMS.
The ability to manage and prioritise a complex workload with rapidly changing demands is vital along with providing effective operational leadership and management for the whole Cellular Pathology team in line with Trust policies and procedures.
You will also be part of a wider operational management team and be involved with major projects such as implementing digital pathology and the validation/verification of new supplier equipment and implementing lean principles/processes.
The role is extremely varied; including responsibility to maintain UKAS accreditation, support the Trust's Human Tissue Authority Designated Individual by being the Persons Designated to ensure compliance with regulations and to support with regulatory visits.
The post holder will also plan and deliver service developments and maintain the department's finances.
In addition to line management, the Lead BMS is responsible for relationships with internal and external stakeholders from clinical teams to suppliers.
You will lead by example and will be expected to maintain your scientific and technical expertise as a BMS.
