Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to gainexperience in paediatric stem cell transplant and, more widely, in paediatrichaematology.
We are seeking anenthusiastic individual with appropriate training to join our dedicated team.This is replacement post based at the Leeds Childrens Hospital at the LeedsGeneral Infirmary in the heart of the city.
Specialty Doctors are an integralpart of our Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Department.
Some of our Specialty Doctors have been withus for over ten years, while others have used the experience gained throughworking in the post as a stepping stone to a consultant post.
The emphasis ofthe role is the in-patient and out-patient care of patients with non-malignanthaematological conditions, especially those undergoing stem celltransplantation.
Main duties of the job DUTIESOF THE POSTTheappointee will primarily be responsible for the day to day care of thepaediatric and young adult haematology inpatients undergoing stem celltransplantation.
They will be supportedin this by the haematology consultants, the paediatric haematology registrar,the adult haematology registrar and the paediatric oncology team.
As part of this they will: Do a daily ward round on the stemcell transplant unit and of other paediatric haematology patients as needed See patients attending acutely to theday unit Participate in clinics for stem celltransplant patients and for those with non malignant conditions in a clinic inthe paediatric haematology day unit Support the stem cell transplant teamwith administrative tasks Share responsibility for the generalanaesthetic lists carrying out haematological procedures (typically lumbarpunctures and bone marrow examinations) Participate in a weekend daytimeservice to the paediatric oncology department.This will be one weekend in 4 and involves review of all the inpatientsand acute presentations to the wards from 0830-2100 on Saturdays andSundays.
This is to assist the generalpaediatric LST and HST who will also becovering the wards and will be supported by the on call consultant inhaematology and oncology.
Participate in the multi-professionalpaediatric haematology and oncology clinical governance programmes Co-ordinatethe weekly paediatric haematology teaching.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential MRCP/MRCPCH or equivalent Experience Essential Experience in paediatric oncology and haematology at HST level is required.
Four years experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice Evidence of working at a higher specialist training level and competencies in paediatric oncology and haematology Desirable Experience in paediatric stem cell transplant Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills Essential Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date Eligibility to work in the UK.
Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
