Locum Consultant General Surgery

Job summary Providing General surgical services to King's Mill and Newark Hospital with two dedicated inpatient wards at King's Mill to cover all aspects of General surgery.
A Day Case Unit and Surgical Assessment Unit provides 24 hour care for surgical admissions and emergencies.
Several dedicated General surgical theatres and an emergency theatre shared with other surgical specialties.
We are a committed and enthusiastic department with Consultants providing surgical cover and a special interest, as well as general surgery.
The General surgical Consultants have good working relationships with Gastroenterology Consultants and surgical colleagues at the regional gastro-oesophageal and hepatobiliary/pancreatic cancer (Nottingham University Hospitals) centres and colorectal surgery at NUH.
It is envisaged that this role supports the surgical same day emergency care unit with its planned expansion, for at least 6 months.
The unit currently has 3 trainee ACPs and is supported by the Consultant body.
Applicants with other subspecialty interests would be actively encouraged to apply and integration with the on call rota and elective work is planned.

Job description Job responsibilities Please see attached detailed job description and person specification for a full list of the main responsibilities Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC Registration Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination (FRCS or equivalent) Desirable Postgraduate thesis MD/MSc/MMEd/PhD Completed fellowship programme in general surgery subspecialty JAG accreditation for gastroscopies/ERCP/EUS Subspecilaist interest in endocrine/ abdominal wall reconstruction or ability to perform cholecystectomies Experience Essential Successful completion of an appropriate SpR/ST/equivalent training programme Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan Ability to lead and maintain clinical credibility with a multi-professional team including senior trainees Extensive practical General Surgery experience Capable of taking part in the emergency General Surgery on call rota (excluding vascular) Desirable Experience of advanced laparoscopic general surgery Teaching Desirable Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role Research Desirable Publications in peer-reviewed journals Management & administrative experience Essential Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload Desirable The potential to be Service Director or alternative medical management role in the future Other Essential Communication skills - to have language competency and communication skills necessary to do the job safely & competently Ability to communicate effectively with team members, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit Desirable Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
