Biomedical Engineer

Our client is designing and manufacturing cutting edge patient-specific medical devices including anatomical models, surgical cutting guides and complex custom implants for a variety of clients including the NHS and leading medical device manufacturers.
Due to their continued growth, there are now looking for a Biomedical Engineer to join the business at this exciting stage of our company journey. The successful candidate can expect a challenging and rewarding role, making a positive difference to patient outcomes in some of the UK’s leading hospitals. Their innovative way of working directly at the point of care allows for a level of autonomy and responsibility and provides staff with a structured career development pathway.
Key responsibilities:
• Using medical segmentation software to extrapolate patient scan data into 3D models for real-world clinical cases.
• Collaborate with clinicians and surgeons to design and implement custom-made medical devices for patients.
• 3D Printing of medical devices to a high standard using a variety of technologies in different materials, post-processing, finishing and inspecting outputs.
• Working on a variety of diverse design and manufacturing projects as and when required that can range from 1 month to 1 year.
• Managing the design, manufacturing and quality processes within a hub facility to maintain the continuous improvement of a certified Quality Management System.
• Regular maintenance and calibration of the facilities 3D printers.
• Liaising with our Sales Team, including developing new business opportunities within the Hub hospital and surrounding hospitals / regions.
Experience/qualifications/skills
- The applicant must have a degree in Biomedical Engineering or similar related discipline.
- At least three years demonstratable industry experience in a biomedical engineering or other related medical engineering roles.
- Industry experience of Mimics/Simpleware segmentation software (particularly multimodal inputs from MRI & CT data).
- Prior industry experience in the design of patient-specific surgical guides using 3D design software.
- A good knowledge of human anatomy and / or surgical procedures related to orthopaedics and ortho oncology disciplines.
- Demonstratable experience of real-world patient cases interacting directly with surgeons, to design and recommend solutions.
Preferred/Advantageous:
- 3D CAD design experience related to medical devices
- Experience with 3D System’s Freeform software
- Knowledge of working with a Quality Management System such as ISO 13485
- Understanding / working knowledge of anatomy related to Cranio-maxillofacial and / or industry experience in design and manufacturing related products
- An understanding and experience with working with 3D printers / technologies covering FDM, SLA, and Polyjet additive manufacturing.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
