Communication Development Specialist – Supporting Voices in SEND Education
Salary: Competitive. £85 - £105
Hours: Full-time/Part-time – 08:30 – 15:30
About Us: At Team Educate, we believe every child deserves the tools to express themselves and the confidence to explore the world on their terms. We’re committed to empowering each child to find their voice, build self-confidence, and engage in meaningful learning.
The Role: We are looking for a dedicated Communication Development Specialist to join our team – someone who brings a strong understanding of communication development and the skills to support students in discovering their voice. If you're skilled in British Sign Language (BSL), Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems, we want you to be the bridge that connects our students to the world around them.
In this role, you'll be part of a team that works closely with students with diverse communication needs. You’ll help provide each child with a personalized communication pathway, assisting them in building the confidence to express themselves and empowering them to engage in their own learning journey.
Key Responsibilities:
* Working closely with students to develop their communication skills through tailored exercises, empowering them to communicate confidently with peers and staff.
* Using BSL, Makaton, PECS, or other tools to support students' individual communication needs, promoting clear expression and comprehension.
* Work with teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement communication plans that align with each student's unique learning goals.
* Encouraging students to use their preferred communication methods confidently, fostering self-esteem and independence in their learning environment.
* Monitoring student progress and adjusting strategies as needed, ensuring consistent support as students develop and grow.
Who You Are:
* Experience or certification in BSL, Makaton, PECS, or similar communication aids is essential.
* You’re not just skilled in language, but in understanding non-verbal cues, and can adapt your approach based on each student's needs.
* You’re compassionate, patient, and committed to seeing each child’s potential and helping them reach it.
* You understand that each child’s journey is unique, and you’re ready to try different strategies to support their development.
Why Join Team Educate?
* Every day, you’ll empower young people to communicate, grow, and become their true selves.
* Work alongside passionate professionals dedicated to making a real difference.
* Opportunities for further training and certifications to support your career growth in SEND education.
If you’re passionate about helping young people find their voices and want to be part of a team that values empowerment, inclusivity, and individualized learning, apply to become a Communication Development Specialist with Team Educate today
