Location: Tottenham
Hours: Full-time (Shifts may include days, nights, and weekends)
About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a child-centered residential home that focuses on providing a holistic, nurturing environment for children and young people. The home emphasizes creating meaningful relationships between staff and children, fostering mutual respect, and supporting the children to thrive emotionally and socially.
Using therapeutic approaches such as the PACE model, the home provides community-based therapies like music and art therapy to support the emotional and developmental needs of the children.
Your Role
As a Support Worker, your primary responsibility will be the well-being of children and young people in your care. You’ll act as a positive role model and trusted point of contact, working to ensure their physical, emotional, and social needs are met while supporting them to achieve their goals and build resilience.
Your Responsibilities
Supporting Children and Young People
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
* Build meaningful, trusting relationships with children.
* Advocate for their healthcare, educational, and emotional needs.
* Encourage positive behavior and set clear boundaries.
* Recognize and address risks of harm or exploitation and implement strategies to reduce risk.
* Support their access to therapeutic, educational, and community-based activities.
* Develop life skills and prepare them for independent living.
* Help children express their wishes, feelings, and aspirations.
* Ensure they have safe, nurturing living conditions, including appropriate clothing, meals, and hygiene.
Professional Standards
* Work collaboratively with the team to provide consistent care.
* Maintain accurate records and uphold confidentiality.
* Stay informed about care plans and regulatory standards (Children’s Homes Regulations England 2015).
* Engage in professional development, including completing Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification.
* Communicate effectively with social workers, educators, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
* Actively contribute to the development of the team and services.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
* Commitment to professional development and training.
* Previous experience (paid or unpaid) working with children and young people.
* Basic knowledge of relevant laws and procedures for children’s homes.
* Ability to understand care plans and collaborate with professionals.
* Honest, reliable, empathetic, and a good listener.
* Strong written and IT skills for accurate record-keeping.
* Ability to interact with children with emotional and behavioral difficulties.
