About Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral is a revered institution, serving as the cathedral of the archbishop of Canterbury and a symbol of the Church of England's leadership. Located in the historic city of Canterbury, Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and a part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The cathedral relies heavily on its dedicated team of volunteers, who contribute significantly to its operations. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to develop a strategic approach to volunteer management, providing expert guidance and support to our volunteer population of approximately 500.

This new role will play a critical part in bringing technical expertise to our volunteering cohort and transitioning the organization to a truly volunteer-centric model. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing and implementing strategic volunteering plans, transforming volunteer processes, and leading teams to achieve outstanding results.

We are looking for a talented individual with the following skills and experience:

  • Working knowledge of best practice in volunteer management
  • Experience of developing and implementing strategic volunteering plans
  • Experience of transforming volunteer processes or introducing volunteer programs for similar organizations
  • Experience of successfully leading, managing, and motivating teams
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and understanding of customer service principles
  • Confidence, articulacy, and strong interpersonal skills to engage positively with diverse groups of volunteers and colleagues
  • A collaborative approach to work
