Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Health Specialist to join our team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our Wellbeing, Public Health, and Communities Team, you will play a vital role in improving the mental wellbeing of people across Essex.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement public health strategies to improve mental wellbeing, working closely with stakeholders and partners to deliver evidence-based interventions.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with regional commissioning leads, district councils, community safety partnerships, and NHS organisations to achieve integrated activity and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the public health consultant in developing strategic priorities and delivering outcomes, using your expertise in substance misuse treatment, governance, and commissioning.
  • Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, including internal and external partners, to inspire confidence and participation in public health initiatives.
  • Manage change in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment, using your experience of delivery of public services and project management.
Requirements
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience, with specialist knowledge of substance misuse treatment and governance.
  • Proven track record of delivering outcomes and managing change in a complex environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and inspire confidence with stakeholders.
  • Experience of working in a commissioning environment, with knowledge of the commissioning cycle and project life cycle.
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle, or ability to meet mobility requirements through other means.
