About the role:

As a key member of Powys County Council's Engineering Design Services team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Structural Engineers and Technicians on a wide range of structural engineering projects across the county.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires you to manage and motivate staff, provide technical expertise, and deliver projects to programme and budget.

You will work closely with the team to ensure the delivery of sustainable projects that enhance the county's biodiversity and natural heritage.

This role offers flexibility, with the option to work from home, the office, or from site.

About you:

We are looking for a chartered civil or structural engineer with significant experience in structural building and highway structures engineering design.

You should have a good working knowledge of relevant standards, codes of practice, and legislation.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels are essential.

You should be self-motivated, able to manage conflicting priorities, and have a desire to develop and mentor your team.

What you will do:

You will work on a broad range of projects for various clients within the authority and beyond.

You will provide designs and technical advice on structural matters related to leisure centres, schools, swimming pools, and other corporate building assets.

You will also take responsibility for structural assessments, design calculations, contract drawings, and documentation for allocated highway asset projects, including bridges and retaining walls.

You will work with the NEC4 contract and have a good understanding of construction best practice and site management.

You will act as the CDM Principal Designer and be committed to Health & Safety matters on your projects at both design and construction phases.
