Job Overview

This role is responsible for managing a team of digital collections specialists and technicians in a new data processing and quality assurance group. The section provides digital acquisitions support to the Library Services, manages the lifecycle of digital collections, and collaborates with other curatorial units and technical staff to establish best practices.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Assistant Head of the Digital Content Management Section. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for supervising a group of employees performing work up to the GS-13 level, planning work, assigning tasks, observing performance, and providing feedback and evaluations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of digital collections specialists and technicians in a new data processing and quality assurance group.
  • Provide administrative and technical supervision relative to the staff supervised.
  • Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
  • Observe workers' performance; demonstrate and conduct work performance critiques.
  • Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff and communicate these through the formal employee performance management system.
  • Recommend appointment, promotion, or reassignment and develop work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary.
  • Serve as an expert in the organization, development, and implementation of multiple complex projects involving the lifecycle management of digital content.
Work Environment

The position reports to the Head of the Digital Content Management Section and will collaborate with other Library curatorial units, technical staff, and external organizations to establish best practices, implement new workflows, and identify digital content management problems and propose solutions.

Requirements
  • GS-15 level experience in digital libraries and technical solutions.
  • Experience in project management, process improvement, and team leadership.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with digital preservation, metadata standards, and digital asset management systems.
Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range of $122,530 to $159,286 per annum, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development within the Library of Congress.
