Job Description

Matchtech is seeking a highly skilled Designated Project Engineer - Track Design to work with a key client in Toronto. This is a permanent role that requires relocation to Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

Functional/Technical

  • Lead the review and comment on design deliverables provided by designers, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Ensure Track life cycle assurance for rail corridors within the project portfolio, including conceptual design development and design reviews.
  • Review suitability of evidence from Design, Construction, and Testing and Commissioning teams for verification and validation purposes.
  • Ensure functional coordination across a matrix organization.
  • Ensure safety, EHS, and compliance requirements are fulfilled at all times and properly implemented in the signal and communication systems scope of works.
  • Review the Electrification strategy definition in line with contract requirements, including PMP elaboration and objectives allocation to the team.
  • Lead and coordinate signal and communication activities and stakeholders from transfer to close-out, including Design, Procurement, Installation, T&C, Maintenance, and Warranty phases.
  • Define signal and communication objectives and main drivers to achieve customer satisfaction in the frame of the Contract.
  • Ensure key project stakeholders are aligned with project goals.
  • Monitor and periodically mobilize a team of engineers to assist with review of design work packages and other submittals.
  • Have an understanding of System Engineering approach to project delivery, including System Integration and System Assurance.
  • Provide advice on requests for deviations from standards related to electrification of a railway corridor.
  • Establish standards and best practices for quality of the reporting and analytics throughout CPG.

Requirements

Education - A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, electronics, or transportation management, or a related field is required.

Experience - 5+ years in Transit and Railway design and construction management in Track systems. Experience managing large, complex, multi-year transit projects in an operational environment, for signaling and Communication systems and related works. Highly experienced with awareness of design and construction of underground/overhead electrical distribution transit systems.

Certifications or Designations - Professional Engineer registered in Ontario.

Technical Competencies:

  • Advanced understanding of Track Standard and AREMA.
  • Knowledge of different types of track forms, including special trackwork.
  • Knowledge of interfaces between track and other systems and structures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices to lead and direct cross-functional teams and consultants, ensuring adherence to timelines and project performance objectives.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in the course of daily work.
  • Analytical, oral/written communication, and negotiation skills to work with internal/external team members.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and organize a variety of activities and deal with stressful situations with tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings.
