About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Data Scientist to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in managing and analyzing large datasets related to climate and environmental science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with data suppliers and users to ensure seamless data acquisition and management
  • Coordinate and timetable data acquisition activities, including automated ingestion and quality checks
  • Describe and document new data products and activities
  • Establish and document format and version details
  • Present activities and progress at relevant UK and European science meetings
Requirements
  • Achieved or be on course to achieve a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment
  • Degree in environmental or atmospheric sciences, computing or geography
  • Interest in and passion for climate, environment or earth observation science
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • An effective team player capable of working with staff at all levels
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong computer literacy skills
Desirable Skills
  • Experience of earth observation and/or meteorological/environmental data
  • Background knowledge in earth observation and remote sensing by satellites
  • Understanding of the benefits and challenges around sound data management
  • Computing skills including exposure to LINUX/UNIX operating systems and programming/scripting skills (preferably python)
  • Some inventiveness and problem-solving skills
