About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Beamline Scientist to join our team at the Diamond Light Source, a world-leading research facility. As a Beamline Scientist, you will play a key role in providing scientific and technical support to our users, ensuring the smooth operation of our X-ray Powder Diffraction beamline.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with our Beamline Science and Technical teams to plan and prepare for user experiments.
- Optimizing and calibrating the beamline to ensure optimal performance.
- Setting up and installing sample environments for various experiments.
- Providing technical and operational support to our users.
- Developing and implementing basic scripting solutions during user visits.
- Contributing to our Mail-in Rapid Access programme.
As a Beamline Scientist, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our in-house research programmes and work with a talented team of scientists and engineers.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will hold an appropriate First Degree or equivalent, as well as a PhD degree or Second degree in chemistry, physics, Earth science, materials science, or a related discipline.
You will have experience in data collection, processing, and analysis for XRD, particularly at a synchrotron beamline. You will also have experience with diffraction analysis programs such as TOPAS or GSAS, and be familiar with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
Desirable skills include basic crystallographic concepts and data analysis methods, collection of XRD data under non-ambient conditions, and Python scripting.
