About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Gynaecological Oncology Specialist to join our team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. As a Consultant in Gynaecological Cancer Care, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical care to patients with gynaecological cancers, performing complex oncological surgeries, and leading outpatient clinics.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Deliver high-quality clinical care to patients with gynaecological cancers
  2. Perform complex oncological surgeries
  3. Lead outpatient clinics and contribute to diagnostic pathways
  4. Participate in multidisciplinary team discussions and decision-making
  5. Teach and supervise junior medical staff, including registrars and medical students
  6. Engage in clinical research and contribute to ongoing developments in gynae-oncology
  7. Participate in the on-call rota to ensure continuity of care for in-patients

Person Specification
  • Essential qualifications: GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR(CP) due within six months of interview date, sub-specialist accreditation in Gynae-oncology (or projected to complete within 6 months)
  • Desirable qualifications: additional qualifications e.g. PhD, MD
  • Essential experience: evidence of training and experience in managing patients with gynaecological cancer
  • Desirable experience: experience of managing advanced ovarian cancer patients, experience of minimal access surgery in gynaecological cancers, experience of managing advanced ovarian and peritoneal malignancies
  • Essential skills: evidence of advanced level of surgical skill in gynaecological cancer surgery, evidence of effective team and multi-disciplinary working, effective and demonstrable communication skills
  • Desirable skills: evidence of quality improvement projects
  • Essential research: evidence of active research interests
  • Essential teaching: evidence of teaching medical students and junior doctors
  • Essential management: evidence of effective leadership skills
