About the Role

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Governance and Assurance to join our leadership team. As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for corporate and clinical governance, risk management, and assurance portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective governance and assurance strategies to ensure the Trust meets regulatory requirements and delivers high-quality patient care.
  • Lead and manage the governance and assurance team to ensure the effective delivery of governance and assurance services.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive and other senior leaders to develop and implement the Trust's strategic objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance on regulatory requirements and ensure the Trust is compliant with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including patients, staff, and external partners.

Person Specification

  • Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate level ability and experience.
  • Appropriate professional and leadership qualification.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, including leadership development.
  • Project management qualification or relevant experience.
  • Registered Nurse, Midwife, or Allied Health Professional with a current registration of relevant professional body.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Post management/leadership qualification or willingness to undertake a postgraduate certificate in management/leadership in an infection control setting.
  • QSIR (or equivalent).
  • Coaching qualification (or equivalent).

  • Demonstrable appropriate specific clinical, leadership, and managerial skills agreed relevant to own areas.
  • Ability to make timely and effective decisions and to develop others in this area.
  • Demonstrable leadership in clinical governance and its application.
  • In-depth knowledge of the role of professional and NHS regulation.
  • Ability to prioritise and demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Committed to CPD of self and others IT skills including Teams and use of data.
  • Demonstrate advanced people management skills including motivation of staff and team building; negotiation; decision making; leadership; budgetary control; staff development skills; conflict and problem solving, including counselling of staff, relatives/carers, patients, colleagues and others.
  • Initiating and managing change.
  • Understanding of current NHS issues and initiatives.
