Mental Health Legislation Coordinator

Job summary
The Mental Health Legislation Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Mental Health Legislation Administrators in ensuring an effective and efficient Mental Health Legislation service. This position requires a good understanding of Mental Health Legislation, although full induction and ongoing training will be provided.
Key responsibilities include receiving, scrutinising and processing papers related to patient admissions and treatment under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. The successful candidate will be able to prioritise their workload to meet legislative deadlines and possess excellent written and communication skills.
As a team player, the Mental Health Legislation Assistant will be able to cross-cover trust-wide and work with a wide range of disciplines and external agencies. This role requires a calm and professional approach when dealing with sensitive information and situations.

Key duties and responsibilities
- Assist in the administration of Mental Health Act / Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
- Receive and scrutinise all legal MHA paperwork, ensuring a high degree of accuracy at all times.
- Facilitate / arrange First-Tier Tribunal / Hospital Managers hearings, request/chase reports, liaise with professionals and service users, to assist with ensuring that all hearing proceedings run smoothly.
- Deal appropriately with all incoming and outgoing communication (emails, telephones, post) as required.
