Job Summary

Mental Health Legislation Assistants play a vital role in supporting the Mental Health Legislation Administrators in providing an effective and efficient Mental Health Legislation service. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for receiving, scrutinising and processing papers in relation to patient admissions and treatment under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.

Main Responsibilities

Assist in the administration of Mental Health Act / Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
Receive and scrutinise all legal MHA paperwork, ensuring a high degree of accuracy at all times
Facilitate / arrange First-Tier Tribunal / Hospital Managers hearings, request/chase reports, liaise with professionals and service users, to assist with ensuring that all hearing proceedings run smoothly
Deal appropriately with all incoming and outgoing communication as required

Person Specification

GCSE English & Maths Grade C or above or an equivalent qualification
Willingness to undertake training to gain certificate in Mental Health Law and Practice
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Excellent written and spoken English & Excellent accuracy and numeric skills
Experience of working to deadlines & Ability to prioritise and organise workload
Ability to work equally well as an effective team member and independently with minimum supervision
