Pharmacy Technician Quality and Safety Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated registered Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic Medicines Optimisation team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical services, supporting both clinical and operational aspects of the team.
Main Responsibilities:
- Responsible for decisions made during the course of duties, seeking guidance and escalating issues where appropriate.
- Assist with the delivery of project plans and workstreams, as directed by line manager and raising any issues with delivery to line manager.
- Supervision of less experienced team members.
- Responsible for the monitoring of one or more budget.
- Provide technical support with the implementation of the medicines optimisation and action plans.
- Responsible for monitoring prescribing to ensure that prescriptions reflect cost centre expected scope of prescribing as well as proactively monitoring for trends and anomalies.
- Support with answering queries to the medicines optimisation generic email inbox.
- Provide technical support to the system in tracking efficiency and performance metrics, specifically for those that are tracking quality and safety of prescribing AMR, controlled drugs, high risk medicines.
- Keep up to date with relevant guidance on patient safety, adhere to all local policies and processes.

Person Specification:
- An understanding of business acumen in their area of responsibility ensuring value for money and the driving factors for delivery in multiple sectors.
- Understanding of practices within required field of work.
- Understanding of current issues impacting on the NHS.
- Experience of provision of pharmaceutical services in primary or secondary care.
- Experience of managing incoming and outgoing information requirements, handling correspondence/queries which may be complex, sensitive or highly confidential.
- Experience of updating and developing policies/ practices/systems within own area of work and/or the wider organisation.
- Good communications skills using a range of methods written and verbal.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to manage own workload, working to deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Degree or equivalent Pharmacy Technician qualification.
- Management qualification or equivalent level of on-the-job experience.
- Evidence of continuing personal development.
- Professional Registration (GPhC).
Key Deliverables:
- Responsible for decisions made during the course of duties, seeking guidance and escalating issues where appropriate.
- Assist with the delivery of project plans and workstreams, as directed by line manager and raising any issues with delivery to line manager.
- Responsible for monitoring budget/s, contributing to budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes.
- Provide technical support to implementation and delivery of one or more strategic plans, enabling key milestones to be delivered and raising any issues associated with the delivery of plans and workstreams.
- Provide technical support for medicines governance to maintain medicines safety and quality.
- Provide technical support with the delivery of the medicines governance agenda.
- Provide technical support to the system where medicines related CQC standards are not met.
- Provide technical support to monitoring prescribing of all prescribers, including non-medical prescribers.
- Responsible for monitoring actions from local national and regional safety alerts in line with ICB process.
- Provide technical support in monitoring high risk drugs, antimicrobial stewardship and dependence-forming medication.
- Maintain and utilise Eclipse risk stratification tool to inform medicines governance and medicines safety strategies.
- Utilise and support the use of prescribing support tools Scriptswitch, in relation to preventing prescribing-related harm.
- Provide technical support to Mid and South Essex quality team with investigating medicines safety incidents and implement best practice.
- Provide technical support to the review and maintenance of safe access to medicines, repeat dispensing, electronic prescriptions, Patient Group Directions.
- Provide technical support for controlled drugs advice and monitoring, including controlled drugs destruction.
- Provide technical support for medicines-related queries and complaints.
