Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at Protec Fire Detection PLC. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for designing and costing new installations, preparing and submitting quotations, and assisting with technical bid writing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Installation: Prepare and submit quotations in accordance with client and British Standard requirements, ensuring tenders are accurate and customer orders are correctly processed.
  • Technical Bid Writing: Assist with technical bid writing, including methodologies, sequencing, and technical submission documents.
  • Design Drawings: Prepare conceptual electronic design drawings and system schematic wiring details.
  • Quotation Preparation: Liaise with the Sales Manager/Sales Engineer and Project/Design Teams to prepare and submit quotations to prospective clients.
  • Cost Information: Assist in preparing cost information, profit forecast, and ensure tenders are properly collated.
  • Supplier Quotations: Assist in obtaining competitive written quotations from suppliers or sub-contractors for inclusion in tender bids.
  • Technical Assessment: Technically assess third-party quotations for compliance.
  • Site Meetings: Represent the Company at initial site meetings and complete site surveys as deemed necessary.
  • Client Sales Order: Process client sales orders and liaise with project engineers on installation orders to ensure customer/job files are prepared.
  • Administration: Undertake any administration and phone duties as required.

Candidates shall be able to demonstrate the necessary qualifications, experience, skills, and traits to meet the requirements set below. Requirements for the role shall be evidenced on the application form and in the interview process.

  • A full Electrical based qualification such as City & Guilds, ONC, HNC etc.

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience within a similar role, designing and costing new installations.
  • Working knowledge of current British Standards.
  • Experience of installing life safety and associated systems.

  • Ability to produce and read technical drawings and specifications.
  • An excellent eye for detail.
  • Ability to consistently produce accurate costs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work individually and as part of a successful team.
  • Creative thinking with the ability to see and implement practical solutions.
  • Proficient using Microsoft computer packages Including Excel, Word, Access and Outlook.
  • Working to deadlines.
