Research Opportunity at the University of Cambridge

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to join our team at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge.

About the Role:

This is a fixed-term position available for 42 months. The successful candidate will work on a research project aimed at elucidating mechanisms underlying vascular calcification as part of an international consortium.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To characterize the mineral phases present in calcified vascular tissues using 2D solid-state NMR methods
  • To develop standardized NMR protocols applicable across various vascular samples
  • To participate in the development of NMR methodologies and other complementary characterization methods
  • To develop in vitro models of vascular calcification and examine collagen and elastin calcification
  • To work with mammalian cells, including co-culture and gene editing

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree or equivalent in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, or a relevant discipline. A strong track record in research and ability to work in a team is essential. Experience in solid-state NMR spectroscopy, mammalian cell culture, and extracellular matrix biochemistry is highly desirable.

Salary: We offer a competitive salary, estimated at £32,000 - £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
