Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our team at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology and a passion for understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake research in the group of Dr Benjamin Ryskeldi-Falcon to determine the molecular mechanisms of pathological protein assembly into amyloid filaments in neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Develop and evaluate cellular and mouse models that recapitulate the pathological assembly of TDP-43 and annexin A11.
  • Conduct experiments to investigate the structures and molecular interactions of amyloid filaments using cryo-EM/cryo-ET.
  • Present scientific work at seminars within the laboratory and at external meetings.
  • Contribute to laboratory-wide discussions on developments within the field.
  • Draft scientific papers and contribute to the overall preparation of research for publication.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant subject or due to complete PhD within 6 months.
  • Experience of and ability to perform techniques relevant to the project, including in vitro, cell and/or animal models of neurodegenerative disease-associated protein assembly.
  • Track record of research in molecular biology and a passion for understanding the molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases.
