Job Description

As a Shift Manager at Great Bear, you will play a crucial role in the success of our warehouse operations. You will support the Operations Manager in the day-to-day running of the warehouse, ensuring all aspects of Health & Safety are maintained and product is picked and dispatched to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and motivate the shift team to achieve productivity and service KPIs.
  • Ensure the highest levels of health, safety, and hygiene are upheld, completing relevant paperwork and retaining records.
  • Maintain high levels of Quality and compliance, adhering to audit standards.
  • Deliver communication briefings to keep all shifts informed of company and local issues.
  • Manage the Goods Inwards area to ensure quick and damage-free receipts, maintaining stock availability.
  • Develop team members to maximize their contributions and succession planning.
  • Carry out disciplinary and grievance interviews, investigations, and return-to-work interviews.
  • Monitor and control sickness absence levels and time and attendance systems.
  • Offer regular feedback on team and individual performance, highlighting good performance and areas for development.
  • Manage manpower planning, ensuring efficient and cost-effective shift operations.
  • Enforce and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and control training for teams, ensuring health and safety representation on shift.
  • Support Management in ad-hoc duties within the Warehouse function.

Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and conciliation skills, with the ability to network with suppliers and customers.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, prioritizing workload to meet deadlines.
  • Effective leadership skills, delegating, supervising, and motivating staff.
  • Able to work as part of a team or individually, with flexibility in approach to work and shift patterns.
  • PC literate in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with working knowledge of WMS systems desirable.
  • Experience in a packing or e-commerce operation advantageous.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and good oral and written communication skills.
