Role Overview

The Financial Governance Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and stability of women@thewell. This includes maintaining an overview of the organization's financial affairs, ensuring effective financial measures and controls are in place, and reporting to the Board at regular intervals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and review the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts, and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees.
  • Ensure that proper accounting records are kept and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
  • Develop and implement robust financial policies, including those covering financial reserves and cost management.
  • Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity, overseeing financial controls and adherence to systems.
  • Support the development and review of the charity's risk-management process, collaborating with the finance manager to lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors.
  • Ensure that accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A finance professional with a strong understanding of charity finance and governance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to bring financial information to life for non-finance specialists.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to balance risk and opportunity, and a willingness to play an active role in areas such as forecasting and budgeting.
  • A commitment to the values and mission of women@thewell, with the ability to listen, question, deliberate, and plan collectively and collaboratively.
