Procurement and Contracts Specialist

A key role for a Procurement and Contracts Specialist has arisen at one of Sussex's leading charities. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement strategy, ensuring optimal supplier performance and pricing, and adopting a commercial approach to support the charity.
The role involves developing and maintaining supplier relationships, overseeing contract development and management, and continuously improving processes to support the delivery of high-quality care. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and ensuring the procurement strategy is relevant, up-to-date, and well understood throughout the organisation.
- Regularly reviewing and updating the procurement policy, ensuring it is communicated, understood, and followed across the organisation.
- Ensuring reliable procurement of high-standard goods and services, supporting the mission of the charity.
- Developing and implementing cost-saving strategies, safeguarding the financial health of the charity.
- Managing contract negotiations and commercial terms with suppliers.
- Conducting tender processes to objectively assess supplier proposals, considering both financial and quality aspects, involving relevant business owners in decision-making.
- Staying connected with the commercial sector and scanning the market for potential partnerships.
- Driving product standardisation and streamlining supplier relationships to maximise purchasing power and secure favourable terms.
- Maintaining an up-to-date contract database.
- Setting and tracking annual cost-saving targets, reporting procurement achievements.
- Contributing to the charity's sustainability goals by supporting environmentally conscious procurement practices.
The ideal candidate will have experience in procurement management, a proven track record of leading change management projects, and in-depth knowledge of contract and procurement law. Strong analytical skills for data analysis and reporting are also essential, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). A flexible and adaptable approach, aligned with the charity's values, is also required.
