Electronics Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our team at Mansell Recruitment Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing new products incorporating analogue and digital electronics, taking them from concept to manufacturing release, and will take a leading role in working with suppliers and mentoring junior colleagues.
As part of our New Product Development (NPD) teams, you will design and develop electrical/electronic solutions, meeting project timescales. You will liaise with Sales, Marketing, and OEM customers to define user interface needs and document them in technical requirements.
Your key responsibilities will include designing both analogue and digital electronic systems, identifying suitable design solutions, and taking responsibility for their interface and operation. You will also be responsible for firmware and user interface software development across a range of products, including defect analysis, debugging, and problem-solving. Additionally, you will be responsible for configuration management and version control, as well as programming a wide range of communication protocols.
You will work closely with our mechanical hardware team to integrate and test electronics and software, preparing test specifications for use in Development and Production. You will also be responsible for designing to meet safety and legal requirements, including RoHS, Low Voltage Directive, and EMC Directive. You will conduct compliance analysis and testing to all applicable directives and arrange independent test and certification where necessary.
The Candidate
We are looking for a candidate with a record of new product development in a similar manufacturing environment. You must be able to provide examples of products designed and launched to market. You should also have experience in mentoring and training junior engineers. In addition, you should have practical experience in developing analogue and digital electronics, including PCB design using Altium and SolidWorks. You should also have programming experience using embedded C, C++, or QML, with Linux being an advantage. You should be able to analyse field failure trends and manage obsolescence. You should also be able to cope with rapidly changing demands on time and prioritise jobs according to urgency. Finally, you should have a logical and methodical approach to work, with a deep understanding of processes and process boundaries between departments, and the ability to identify and remove any roadblocks.
